The OshKosh JLTV Will Be Paired With A Duramax
If you are the proud owner of a Duramax, you will be ecstatic to find out that it happens to be the same Engine that will be placed in Oshkosh’s Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). In the current model engines, the Duramax is expected to put out around 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque. With the Oshkosh JLTV you can expect to see a little spike in those numbers. GM says they are extremely honoured to have been chosen to power the JLTV and they should be. Apparently 17,000 of these armored vehicles are on order and should be expected to launch in 2018 and if Oshkosh ends up with the US military contract, they can expect to ramp up production to over 50,000 of them with each one valued at around $250,000. If It is picked it will replace the Humvee.

Rumor Has It Porche Is Building A Ferrari 488 Slayer
Well, the title pretty much sums it all up nicely. Porche, after laying dormant in the hyper car manufacturing biz since the release of the 918 Spyder has suggested that they may be designing a new car to compete directly with the Ferrari 488. Although the idea is currently a flight of fancy, the German car manufacturer is hinting that they are working on a Quad-Turbo, flat 8 cylinder engine which I can only assume will be making anywhere between 650 to 700 horsepower. The rumor goes even further to say that the engine is currently being tested in a Cayman. As for the rest of the car, you can expect it to based on the new VW modular car platform which is said to be seen in everything from the new Audi R8 to Lamborghini’s future Huracan. Hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised down the road, somewhere around the 2019 mark.

Fiat’s Diesel Vehicles Also Suspected Of Using A Cheat
In Malvern England there is a special kind of shop where dream vehicles are hand crafted without the help of any robots. It is one of the few places left in the world where skilled carpenters, fabricators and mechanics are gathered under the same roof to create works of art. The name of the auto manufacturer is Morgan, and they have a lineage full of impressive craftsmen and automobiles. For 2016, Morgan has yet again delivered a beautiful roadster which they call the AR Plus 4. With the help of Ford and their favorite tuning company, Cosworth. Under the hood, you will find a 2.0 litre, four cylinder engine which redlines at an impressive 8,000rpm. To make sure that the engine wasn’t just another generic Ford powerhouse, Cosworth essentially gutted the original Duratec engine and started from scratch to generate approximately 225 horsepower on a car which weighs only 2,200 pounds.

Fiat’s Diesel Vehicles Also Suspected Of Using A Cheat
Across the pond, Fiat has fallen under suspicion of using a similar tactic to pass emission tests to that of Volkswagen. Rather than using advanced software to determine weather or not their vehicles are being placed under emission tests, Fiat seems to have dumbed down their emission test cheat by simply having their engines run clean for the first 22 minutes of engine life. The accusations have not been proven yet but it must make the Italian automakers quake in their boots a little bit after seeing what Volkswagen has been through over the past 8 months or so. The scandal was first reported by Bild am Sonntag, a German newspaper. His report states that Fiat is under investigation by German authorities after testing a 500x which yielded the time based cheat. The test highlighted that once warmed up, the 500x produced more NOx than a cold engine. Sounds like Europe’s diesel industry is in trouble…

Mack To Improve Their 2017 Fuel Economy By 9%
As a kind of tribute to Earth day, I suppose it is only fitting to talk about what is coming down the line for Mack to improve fuel efficiency on their 2017 model engines. Both the MP7 and MP8 are due for an upgrade which means that Mack went to the white board and drew up a plan to maintain the same level of performance their customers expect from their engines while using new technology to both decrease the amount of strain that is placed on their engines and make them better on fuel. Some of the ways they are doing this are through turbo compounding, improved common rail fuel injection, and other gizmos which are hard to understand. With the new mechanical alterations to their MP7 and MP8 engines you can expect to see approximately 8.8% better fuel economy which is a big deal for highway drivers. My only concern is that they have done nothing to fix the problems with the EGR and DPF systems.

Kahn’s Tribute To The End Of The Defender
Since the sad demise of the Land Rover Defender line this February, Kahn Automobiles decided to pay tribute to the dieing breed by sending it off in style. Their final final model has been fittingly titled “The End Edition” also known as the “Kahn Automobiles Land Rover Defender 2.2TDCi XS 90 The End Edition”. It is valued at approximately $72,000, it is limited to only 50 vehicles. Each Defender is kitted with their own custom wide body kit which allows for the installation of 20 inch, 275-section tires. The upgrades made to it’s 2.2L turbodiesel four cylinder engine have been kept a secret as well as any performance numbers. Although the upgrades are kept secret, we can only assume that they didn’t squeeze too much out of the engine since the brakes were left unchanged. With that said, the cosmetic changes are significant enough to encourage anyone to want to purchase “The End Edition”.

The 2016 Canyon Diesel
With all of the controversy currently surrounding modern diesel engines the 2016 GMC Canyon Diesel gives us hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. For starters, the Canyon has a 2.8 Litre Duramax engine under it’s hood which generates 181 horsepower and a surprising 369 lb-ft of torque. The surprising thing is that they packed all of this power into a 4 cylinder engine. When you lay your foot into the accelerator the diesel Canyon jumps off the line and hits 60 mph in 10.2 seconds. One more thing that is worth mentioning is that the EPA has no problems with the emissions generated from this engine. Probably one of the most impressive things to be said about the Canyon is that it gets 31 mpg in 2 wheel drive. Although the ride is said to be a bit firm and some parts of the interior are a bit cheep, nearly everything else about the truck is as solid as you would expect from a GMC truck.

Exotic Sport And Luxury Cars Sent To The Trash Bin
Recently on the Sichuan-Tibet highway, a 2,142km road which has been named one of the world’s most dangerous roads, a group of wealthy business men decided to take a fleet of expensive Italian cars from start to finish. The stunt was dubbed a marketing ploy which was organized by Ni Haishan. Haishan was driving a red Ferrari F12, with his employees following in what were said to be 10 Maserati Ghibli sedans. Apparently 6 of the 10 Maseratis failed to cross the finish line which isn’t really a surprise if you look/read about the terrain that they drove across. I wish I could say more about the stunt but I am getting a little sick just thinking about the kind of people it would take to destroy such beautiful vehicles. What a waste of money! I hope that whatever business these people hoped to drum up with this stunt is sent elsewhere.

Top Gear Review Of The New Batmobile
There are so many perks to professionally reviewing cars. Think of all the unobtainable vehicles you would come across every time you are sent out to the track (at least if you work for Top Gear). Recently, the writers for Top Gear’s website were taken to the test track to deliver a review of probably one of the most unobtainable vehicles in the world, The Batmobile! While they didn’t actually get the privilege of driving the… vehicle, Top Gear managed to get enough information to compile a through review of the Dark Night’s daily driver. They go over things like it’s 6.2L LS3 V8 taken from the Camero, the 3 speed transmission, the sounds from in the cab, the gadgets and more. Normally I would try and write a condensed version of the actual article but in honour of such a rare report, I felt it was necessary to simply link you to it and let you have at er.

Tesla Unveils Their Model 3
Well everyone, Elon Musk has done it again. The man who started off building his empire on an all electric roadster, went on to develop a way to send the public to space, then created a solar powered battery which can power a house…. well you get the point. Elon Musk has released the Model 3. It is the lowest price point for his line up of electric vehicles and has all the car media buzzing. The price point of this new electric vehicle is set at an affordable $35,000 and delivers surprising performance for it’s price range and fuel type with a sub 6 second zero to 60 time. It is supposed to get 215 miles on a single charge too which is surprising on its own. On top of all of this, the 3 is said to be able to store a 7′ surf board in the boot. It all looks great on paper so all I can do is hope that the car delivers on all of it’s promises.
